Instant Pot IP-LUX50 v2 6-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker Review
In my continuing series on the best electric pressure cookers, I’ve decided to review the Instant Pot IP-LUX50 v2 6-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker, a cooker that looks quite a lot like other models I’ve reviewed (specifically, the DUO60 and the LUX60). However, this pressure cooker has its own set of features which set it apart from those two models.
One of the main differences that makes this pressure cooker different from others is that it comes in a 5-quart size instead of a 6-quart one. For some people, this may be a deal breaker since it coming in a smaller size means that it may not be able to handle the cooking jobs that some families need it to handle.
However, as you probably learned from electric pressure cooker reviews, this machine is not only compact but is also fairly easy to use. Since it’s a 6-in-1 cooker, it can handle a variety of assignments, which include using it as a pressure cooker, a steamer, a rice cooker, for browning and as a warmer. It also has an automatic warming feature and a delayed start feature that enhances its usefulness.
One thing that I didn’t like about this pressure cooker though was that it only cooks at high pressure. There is no setting available that allows it to cook at a lower temperature. Which makes it great for foods that are tougher but doesn’t make it all that great for more delicate dishes.
Another thing that I didn’t like was the manual. I don’t feel that it went into enough detail on how the cooker worked. It wasn’t the worst I’ve ever seen but it makes me wonder if they didn’t just gloss over certain information. I definitely would have liked to have seen a more comprehensive manual with this cooker.
I did like that it came with a full complement of safety features which included an anti-blockage vent, pressure regulator, excess pressure protection, lid close protection and many more features. In fact, it has about 10 safety mechanisms in place altogether and is UL and ULC certified. This makes it one of the safest cookers I’ve found so far.
I cooked a number of different things with the Instant Pot IP-LUX50 v2 6-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker and it did a pretty good job. The first thing I cooked with it was some sliced pork shoulders. I placed them into the cooker, turned it on and in no time flat I had delicious pulled pork for my pulled pork sandwiches.
The next thing I tried was some balsamic rice and it did a good job with that too. I’m not sure how it would handle a more delicate rice but it did good with what I used. The last thing I did was to steam some asparagus spears and like everything else, it turned out beautifully. This is a cooker that I would recommend to just about anyone, as long as you don’t need a low pressure setting or need a 6 quart model.
